“This book is a gift of time. Recline and enjoy the views. Easily one glides along to new horizons without traffic or turbulence. Sometimes nostalgic, mostly this book reflects a philosophy— that space for reading and meditating, relating to accidental companions, or discovering any number of small towns— will render meaning. And it does. Jane Fishman realizes that the journey is where humanity and excitement can unfold. Her skillful writing proves it. Get this ticket.” —LUCILLA GARRETT, FREELANCE WRITER/ARMCHAIR TRAVELER, from the book jacket
For twenty years Jane Fishman has written a human interest column for the Savannah Morning News. She has owned a Laundromat and a Middle Eastern vegetarian restaurant, written obituaries and feature stories, taught high school English. She is the author of Everyone’s Gotta Be Somewhere, a collection of newspaper columns, and The Dirt on Jane, a collection that is Jane Fishman’s anti-memoir. It’s a tale of aging, a style of gardening, a rage at having to wear two pairs of glasses to read a map in the car. She is a gardener who hosts a bi-annual plant swap. She does not plant in rows. A former resident of Chicago; Eureka Springs, Arkansas; and Key West, Florida, she currently lives in Savannah, Georgia.
