About Our Events
Our author events both at the shop and with many other nonprofit organizations around town have welcomed nationally recognized award-winners and regional favorites, including Patricia Lockwood, Harrison Scott Key, Taylor Brown, David Sedaris, Janisse Ray, Caryl Phillips, Edwidge Danticat, Jen Spyra, Benjamin Busch, Beverly Donofrio, Robert Olen Butler, Daniel Handler, Sylvie Simmons, David Blight, Roxanne Gay, Neil Gaiman, Allan Gurganus, Douglas Blackmon, Joyce Maynard, Brendan Koerner, Sarah Domet, Patrick Samway, Jan Gehl, Dan Kennedy, Ann Hood, Charles Frazier, and Isabel Wilkerson. See our Events Calendar on this website and our Facebook page for the full list of previous and upcoming authors making their way to Savannah!
We are also proud to host Savannah's annual Local Author Day, held in conjunction with the Flannery O'Connor Childhood Home, because after all, all writers are local somewhere! It's a fun day with local and regional authors, chicken-poop bingo, Flannery-inspired costumes, and a parade celebrating the spring birthday of Savannah's most famous local author.
Poets also have a special place to call home at The Book Lady and often give public readings at the shop. We are a regular stop for the Georgia Poetry Circuit and we have hosted, among so many others, Kim Addonizio, Anya Silver, David Kirby, Rob Griffith, Joan McBreen, Juliana Gray, Danelle Lejeune, Tim Seibels, Alexis Orgera, Derrick Harriell, Chad Faries, Adrian Matejka, Alice Friman, Denise Sweet, Frank Walker, Sjohnna McCray, and Erica Dawson.
It Takes a Village to Support Authors!
To further support our community and the causes we believe in, you will see us about town selling books for the Georgia Historical Society, Coastal Wildscapes, Ossabaw Island Foundation, Flannery O'Connor Childhood Home, Skidaway Institute of Oceanography, Wormsloe Foundation, Senior Citizens Inc./The Learning Center, Telfair Museum of Art, Georgia Southern University Department of Literature, Savannah State University, Deep Center, Seersucker Live, and many others.
